| The A.B. Govey Building – 331 West
Railroad Avenue
This building is a two-story brick Commercial Vernacular
Style building was designed by Joseph Henry Wohleb and constructed
in 1924. The building has a traditional storefront with a
side entry in front to the second floor. The building was
originally built for Arthur B. Govey, who began working for
Sol Simpson in 1891 as a clerk for Simpson Company Logging
camps. By the time of his death in 1942, Mr. Govey was Vice
President of the company and also served as company treasurer.
The first floor of the building is and has been historically
used for commercial/retail type uses, with offices on the
second floor.
The building exterior remains mostly unchanged, retaining
the brick and mortar construction and large display windows
that extend along the full front and portion of the side.
The slight changes that have been made over the years include
covering of the transom windows above the first floor display
windows and some slight changes to the transom windows on
the west.
The building was placed on the Shelton Historic Register
in February 2002.
