| Grant C. Angle House – 629 West
Cota Street
This single-family residence was built in 1890 for Grant
C. Angle and is a two-story wood frame structure with Queen
Anne Architecture style. This house was probably one of the
first houses built in the current downtown. Grant C. Angle
made his most significant contribution in the community through
the influence of the newspaper he established called the Shelton-Mason
County Journal in 1886. He was also known for his platting
of a large portion of the south hill (now known as Angleside
Neighborhood) through his real estate agency in 1923.
The building features solid brackets, which are characteristic
of Italinate architecture, while other features appear to
reflect Queen Anne design. The doors are Queen Anne style
wood paneled doors with an upper portion of multi-pane glazing
with clear and colored glass. The windows are one-over-one,
double hung wood sash units.
The building was placed on the Shelton Historic Register
in May of 1996.
